The first Fakenham Gas works was built by local man R.P. Spice in 1846, this was his first but he went on to become one of the most well known Gas engineers of the 19th century, the current works dates from the very early 20th Century and still retains all the equipment needed to produce gas from coal and to process the by-products produced.
The Museum has a large collection of Gas Lighting, Gas Water Heaters, Gas fires, Gas Refrigerators, Gas washing Machines, Dryers and Irons. With Gas meters for the home and industry.
Our new exhibition space will be devoted to looking at Fakenham's architectural history, other displays from local artists and local organisations will be around the site.
A new permanent exhibition of the history of Fakenham's printing history is planned to be open too.

This is an old industrial site with slightly uneven ground and small steps.
