The first Fakenham Gas works was built by local man R.P. Spice in 1846, this was his first but he went on to become one of the most well known Gas engineers of the 19th century, the current works dates from the very early 20th Century and still retains all the equipment needed to produce gas from coal and to process the by-products produced.
The Museum has a large collection of Gas Lighting, Gas Water Heaters, Gas fires, Gas Refrigerators, Gas washing Machines, Dryers and Irons. With Gas meters for the home and industry.
Displays from local artists Ric Pimentel with his work inspired by the Gas industry and Fakenham Gasworks in particular and sculptures Dallas and Angel known around the world as DnA. We will have displays from local organisations will be around the site including the Fakenham and District Community Archive looking at the Architecture of the Fakenham area.
we will have live music from 3 local groups from 1pm till 4pm on Sunday 21st September in the Coal Yard to listen to as well.
