The Old Church St Alphege Seasalter
The Old Church St Alphege Seasalter, Church Lane, Seasalter, Whitstable, Kent, CT5 4BX
The "Old Church" is open from 9am to 5pm for anyone taking part in the Friends of Kent Churches sponsored Ride and Stride as well as any visitors interested in the history of the church and its role in the community in 2025 and beyond. This is an opportunity to view the recent re-ordering of the church which has ensured this lovely space continues to be used for worship, prayer and special services.
There has been a church in Seasalter for more than 1,000 years. The first church is thought to have been built in Anglo Saxon times on what is now the shoreline by the Oyster Pearl Pub, formerly the Blue Anchor. The present "Old Church" of St Alphege, Seasalter is the chancel of the twelfth century church that was built further inland. The current congregation of St Alphege, Seasalter now also worship in Seasalter Christian Centre, built in 2007, and are working together to prepare for the next 1,000 years at the heart of the community.
