Wincobank Chapel and Iron Age Hillfort
132 Wincobank Avenue, Wincobank, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S5 6BB
In 1817 Joseph and Elizabeth Read moved to Wincobank Hall from Attercliffe and established a non-conformist chapel in the coach house and a Sunday school in the laundry-room. In 1841 their daughter Mary Anne Rawson raised funds for a new school building still in use today as a chapel and community centre. The adjacent chapel house, originally the school teacher's house, has recently been refurbished as an additional community facility and heritage centre. There will be an illustrated talk at 1200 about the changes the chapel has seen and the part it has played in the everyday lives of the Wincobank community. Volunteers will also be on hand during the afternoon with additional information and an Archive Exhibition. Refreshments will be available. No booking needed.
Friends of Wincobank Hill will be at the Chapel with archaeological information and there will be a guided walk through Ancient Woodland up to the nearby Iron Age Hillfort at 1330 and 1500. The round walk, which includes some uphill sections, will take approximately 60 minutes.

The Chapel site is fully accessible. However, the walk to the hillfort is quite steep over rough paths and unfortunately, is not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
