Wymondham Abbey - visits and tours.
Church Street,, Wymondham, Norfolk, NR18 0PH
Wymondham Abbey is one of South Norfolk’s prime tourist sites, with over 30,000 people visiting every year. We have fine displays explaining the fascinating history of the Abbey, the parish church and the town.
During the Heritage Open Days we will be doing regular guided tours of the Abbey, explaining the history and features of this amazing building. On Saturday 13th and Saturday 20th, tours are hourly and free. Other days tours will be by appointment with a small fee.
There will be a limited number of guided tours of the bell tower, which will combine an explanation of bell-ringing with a view of our magnificent peal of ten bells. These will take place on the two Saturdays of the Heritage Open Days week.
There will be a short organ recital on our magnificent 1793 James Davies organ at 11:00 on Saturday 13th September. Entry will be free.
We will have artefacts and documents from our archives on display, some of which are over 500 years old. Our own archivist will be on hand to talk about the most important ones (times and dates to be confirmed).
Our café will be open, offering tea, coffee and cakes.
Our well-stocked shop will be selling books, pamphlets and souvenirs.
We will be operating a booking system for the tours (all are free, but spaces per tour are necessarily limited).
Keep an eye on our website for further details.
