Gainsborough’s House
Gainsboroughs House, 46-47 Gainsborough Street, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 2EU
Gainsborough's House birthplace museum of Gainsborough re-opened in November 2022 after a £10million development project, majority funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to refurbish and reinterpret the Historic House and build new galleries.
Gainsborough's House is finally completely 'unwrapped' with the collection reinstalled, new interpretation in the Historic House including an Artist's Studio, John Constable's family collection, a Silk Gallery exploring Sudbury's silk heritage, a room dedicated to the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing and the David Pike Drawings Gallery which has changing exhibitions of works on paper. The new galleries show the best of Gainsborough in our silk-lined Gainsborough Gallery. Our Timothy and Mary Clode Gallery is showing the very personal Maggi Hambling's 'Origins' examining her deep connection with Suffolk. Our Sudbury Gallery has Suzanne Cooper a re-discovered artist. Our special viewing window in the Landscape Studio has spectacular views over the landscape and on Friday 15th September visitors will be able to explore our Camera Obscura on a first come/first served basis. Our recently re-opened Print Workshop can be viewed by visitors and they can also relax in our lovely garden and visit the on-site Watering Place cafe if they wish. We also have an award-winning Shop.
This event took place in September 2023 and the entry is now archived.
