What's on?

Hidden histories of a thriving city - from its first recorded African resident, to 19th century transgender performers and an Edwardian war hero. These unsung stories were brought into the light for a guided walk over the festival, but as we can’t all take the tour, local historian Danny has shared a taster of them for us here.

Uncovering everyday histories with Findmypast

From the landlady of a Norwich pub to the weaver who’s life changed after walking to a field in Manchester. The stories of ordinary people bring the famous sites and events of history into sharper focus. Findmypast have been uncovering these tales for Heritage Open Days as part of their sponsorship of this year’s festival theme. If you didn’t catch them at an event, read on for a taster of what they found, and how you can start investigating your own ‘Everyday Histories’.
