Waverley Abbey Walk

Waverley Lane (B3001), Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8EP

The Rise and Fall of Waverley Abbey - Join guide Roger Jude for a walk round the Waverley Abbey site, describing the Abbey Church ruins, the Chapter House, the Monks’ dormitory and the undercroft of the Lay Brothers’ dormitory. The tour last approx 90 mins.

This is a hauntingly atmospheric and peaceful place hidden in river meadows, the first Cistercian abbey to be established in England, founded in 1128. It was suppressed by Henry VIII in 1536 as part of the Dissolution.

The ruins are in the care of English Heritage and open to the public.

This event took place in September 2016 and the entry is now archived.
