Feeling brave? Want to explore the country house that inspired some much beloved classic crime novels? Well, pop along to Abney Hall, the home of Agatha Christie’s sister. As a regular visitor over 50 years Agatha is said to have drawn on it for many of her works. Explore the setting and learn more about the women that influenced her work.

The Bronte’s local church

This parish was home to Anne and Branwell Bronte in the 1940s when they were working at the local manor. The area inspired Anne’s writing so if you’re a fan it might feel familiar, and maybe spark some literary ideas for you too?!

This intriguing little house belonged to an internationally famous Victorian writer, Charles Dickens. Book a tour to step in his footsteps and discover more about his love of the area, how it inspired his work, and might be set to inspire others in future!

Take a walk around Gloucester to discover the places behind some of Beatrix Potter’s charming tales, including the shop from the 'Tailor of Gloucester'. One of her personal favourites this story was based on a local incident and she drew the illustrations from the real location.

The vicar's train set

Choo choo! All aboard for a visit to the home of an (aspiring) ‘Really Useful Engine’? One of the many vicars who lived here was the father of another beloved children’s writer. The young Wilbert Awdrey played with a train set in the garden inspiring a lifelong passion from which Thomas the Tank Engine was born.
