Step into the world of one of Britain’s greatest artists at Gainsborough’s House this Heritage Open Days 2025. Enjoy free entry to the historic house and garden, where you can explore the very rooms where Thomas Gainsborough lived and worked. Discover the story of his life and art in beautifully restored 18th-century surroundings, and wander through the historic garden. Nestled among the greenery, you can also admire a striking series of sculptures by renowned artist Helaine Blumenfeld OBE, adding a contemporary touch to this historic setting.
The Gainsborough Gallery is a highlight not to be missed, displaying an outstanding collection of his masterpieces that bring his story to life. Alongside Gainsborough’s works, the house also features pieces by acclaimed contemporary artist Katherine Jones RA, offering a fresh perspective in dialogue with Gainsborough’s legacy.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a range of free activities for all ages, family-friendly creative activities, an art trail and demonstration of the camera Obscura, along with opportunities to learn more about Gainsborough’s life and influence.
For those wishing to extend their visit, the special temporary exhibition from Kenwood House will also be open on the day for the exclusive price of just £7. This is a rare opportunity to see remarkable works on loan from one of London’s most important historic collections.

Gainsborough’s House is mostly accessible by wheelchair. Unfortunately, larger mobility scooters are not suited to our museum layout. You may borrow our manual wheelchair while visiting and this is located at the reception desk. If you would like access to this during your visit, please call in advance if possible. Once you are in the gardens, there is ramp access to The Watering Place Café and the main House.
