A Walk Around Stoney Royd
Hosted by Friends of Stoney Royd Cemetery Halifax
Step through the historic gates of Stoney Royd Cemetery and discover one of Calderdale's most remarkable hidden heritage sites.
Along the way, you'll hear about prominent local figures, clergy, Commonwealth war graves, forgotten memorials recently uncovered by our volunteers, and the ongoing work to preserve this unique place for future generations. You'll also learn about the cemetery's connection to the former St Luke's Hospital, the diverse faith communities represented within the grounds and the many restoration and heritage projects currently underway.
Whether you're passionate about local history, genealogy, architecture, nature or simply enjoy a peaceful walk in beautiful surroundings, there is something for everyone.
The walk is suitable for all ages, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share memories and discover how community volunteers are helping to bring hidden history back into the light.
Come and see why Stoney Royd Cemetery is far more than a burial ground—it is a living archive of Calderdale's people, heritage and identity.
Everyone is welcome.
