This unique chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Elverton, is the only known Christian building in England to incorporate a 4th-century Roman mausoleum into its structure. Built directly around the Roman remains, the medieval chapel offers a rare glimpse into how sacred spaces were reused and reimagined across centuries.

For one afternoon only, volunteers will be on hand to share short, engaging talks about the chapel’s origins, its architectural features, and its significance in local and national history. Faversham Stone Chapel is located in a field immediately north of the A2, just west of Ospringe and opposite Faversham Road. The nearest postcode is ME13 0TB and the What3Words reference is ///haystack.backpack.fund. The site is a short walk across grass from the roadside, with limited parking available in nearby lanes—please park considerately. The chapel is around 1.5 miles from Faversham train station, and local bus services, including Chalkwell 324 and Arriva/Chalkwell 333, stop nearby. Cyclists can access the site via the National Cycle Network. Signage is minimal, so visitors may wish to consult a map or GPS before setting out.
