Gibside is a Grade I-listed Park and Garden that offers miles of walking trails through secluded woodland and views across the Derwent Valley. Nature-rich, Gibside is home to roe deer and red kites, it has amphibian-filled ponds and a fruitful walled garden. Explore key features of the original Georgian landscape garden including Gibside Chapel, the Column to Liberty and the ruined Orangery.

Learn more about Gibside with special tours of the Chapel's crypt. Tours of the crypt will run regularly throughout the day, numbers are limited and spaces available on a first-come-first-served basis.

On the Explorer trail, families can zoom along the zip line at the adventure play area, or build dens.

The Market Place café offers a range of cakes, bakes and a place to relax. There are second-hand bookshops in the Market Place and at the Stables. An off-lead area for dogs is available at the Stables.

Directions:
There are frequent bus services from Newcastle or Gatesheadhe, t X45 takes 10 minutes from the Metrocentre. A scenic 9-mile cycle route runs from St. Mary's Heritage Centre in the centre of Gateshead, and cycle parking is available at Gibside. If you're travelling by car, follow the brown signs from A1 towards Rowland's Gill. Parking is free and there are 6 electric vehicle charging points available.

Accessibility details

Gibside is a 600 acre site full of wide hard-standing paths. Many paths are accessible by wheelchair, however some areas are steeper than others with different terrains underfoot. Visitor reception will be able to assist with which paths are not suitable. We have mobility trampers available to book onsite, as well as an access bus which can transport visitors to the main areas of the Market Place and the Stables. For access to the Chapel, we have a stair climber if required.

Additional information

Heritage Open Days is a popular day for visitors. We anticipate that our car park will be full during during peak times and we may have to run a 'one in, one out' system. We encourage visitors to use public transport or arrive onsite early or after 2pm. Join us on Friday 11 September to best avoid any waits. Dogs are welcome at Gibside but should be kept on a lead at all times, except in our designated off-lead area at the Stables.
