Bring along your family history and heritage to spark conversations with the Land of Oak & Iron Trust. We’re excited to see pictures, diaries, journals, letters, heirlooms, and anything else you find fascinating about your past.

This event is a chance for members of the local community to meet the Land of Oak & Iron Trust, share your history and heritage, and find out more about how to get involved in the Land of Oak & Iron Story project. Your stories are valuable pieces of the Land of Oak & Iron jigsaw, helping to identify new connections, spark conversations, and inspire younger generations to continue preserving our shared history. With many incredible stories to tell, the Trust’s volunteers will play a pivotal role in delivering the project’s engagement programme. We will be inviting new volunteers to join through this event, so if you are interested, please consider signing up after attending.

The Land of Oak & Iron Story programme is running from June 2026 for 2 years and aims to refocus the spotlight on the area's rich and fascinating heritage. With funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Groundwork NE&C is supporting The Land of Oak & Iron Trust and other key partners to engage with the public and empower local communities to volunteer and get involved, exploring the area's rich heritage and landscapes through a range of educational, environmental and cultural initiatives.
