Land of Oak & Iron Trust - Research Group Drop-in
The Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre, Spa Well Road, Winlaton Mill, Blaydon-on-Tyne, Tyne & Wear, NE21 6RU
The Land of Oak & Iron Trust's Research Group are engaged in an ongoing mapping project, researching and developing a rich, multi-layered map of the area, full of information about its natural, built, and social heritage. From industrial sites, turnpikes and waggon ways, to forests, regeneration sites, and people of importance across social strata, the maps tell the story of the area through geography and time. The Research Group are also engaged in the preservation of the wider social, industrial, and natural history of the area.
The Land of Oak & Iron Story programme is running from June 2026 for 2 years and aims to refocus the spotlight on the area's rich and fascinating heritage. With funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Groundwork NE&C is supporting The Land of Oak & Iron Trust and other key partners to engage with the public and empower local communities to volunteer and get involved, exploring the area's rich heritage and landscapes through a range of educational and cultural initiatives.
With many incredible stories to tell, the Land of Oak & Iron Trust’s volunteer Research Group will play a pivotal role in this engagement programme. This event is a chance to meet members of the Research Group, explore what has already been mapped and documented, and think about what may yet be discovered. We will be inviting new volunteers to join through this event, so if you are interested, please consider signing up after attending.
