Life at Headstone Manor Guided Tour

Headstone Manor is the only completely moated Manor House in Greater London. The Manor House still standing today dates from 1310.

Step back in time at Headstone Manor - a working farm since the Middle Ages up until 1928. Discover how the Reading family cooked, cleaned, and kept the land without any of the conveniences we take for granted today. From feeding the Archbishop of Canterbury to tending their fields, their story is waiting to be told. Explore the Great Barn, Manor House, and gardens on this 45-minute guided tour. This is a unique opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of Headstone Manor, offering a close-up look at its buildings and grounds from an architectural perspective.

Sturdy flat footwear is essential. Tour participants must be able to climb narrow steps / stairs.

Accessibility details

Some of the rooms can be accessed only via steps and some doorways are only 70cm wide. There is a small platform lift to the first floor where four rooms are step-free but doorways are narrow. Please dress warmly in cold weather and wear robust shoes. Some floors are uneven and some stairs have rope handrails. We begin the tour outdoors and most of the museum is unheated.

Headstone Manor & Museum is open from 1000-1600 (with last entry at 1530). During Heritage Open Days we will offer a coffee and cake deal at the Moat café.
