The Old Rectory – tour of the history of the Gardens, Occupants and the Building – Iconic building 2
The Old Rectory, Old Rectory Lane, Pulborough, West Sussex, RH20 2AF
On entering the front gate you see the beautiful façade of the house as it was when built in the 1720’s – and in the turning circle a small garden and a statue from the Shona tribe of Zimbabwe. To the right is an amazing sunken garden which is a 21st century creation from the previous large lawn.
In the back garden, which is now much reduced from the original of around six acres which then included a large lake, now has a recently created freshwater swimming pond, changing rooms and a pickleball court.
The leaflet on the house and gardens and the on-hand guide will tell you much more about what you see and the history of who did what with whom.
